It's that time of year. Many of you want to get videos of your kids skiing, sledding or snowboarding. Or shoot your buddies skiing the trees, hitting the rails, or flying out of the halfpipe. I'll be shooting the Dew Tour at Killington for NBC, but many of you might want to grab a few shots of the event to share with your buddies.
Here's a minute and a half of insight into getting better results when your faced with winter weather. This is one of a series of 7 "Video Secrets" tips we produced for Outside TV. You may recognize my co-host Doug Lewis, a two time winter Olympian, and now host of Universal Sports World Cup ski coverage.
What do I love about this business? Getting to see and experience new things with great people. This weekend we shot the Peak Pittsfield Vermont Death Race for Outside TV. Thank you Wendy Erikson, Pete Nenortas, Traci Templeton and Rosie Cleland for going WAY beyond the call of duty. You moved ladders in the middle of the woods, found warm clothes for a nearly hypothermic racer, pulled a 24 hour shift, and got great video and audio - and all with a smile.
And thank you athlete and writer Mark Jenkins for being gracious under the extreme pressure of competing in the "Daath Race." New England Emmy Nominations! Madmotion principal Marion Dane Abrams was nominated in both the Photographer and Editor categories for her work on Vermont Spotlight's half hour show "Resort Spotlight." Also nominated was Vermont Spotlight host Kelley Lewis. Of course the show requires more than just Marion and Kelley to come together. Behind the scenes and making all this possible are co-host and co-owner Doug Lewis, and our super duper all around assistant and fixer Traci Templeton. I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Nancy Donnelly, recipient of a new heart and liver, for this "Go Red for Women" video. Although it can be a bit of a challenge both operating camera and conducting an interview, Nancy was a great interview subject and we were able to have a relaxed comfortable conversation. I found her story emerged naturally in the edit, I imagine this is similar to what sculptors experience when they talk about uncovering the sculpture in a piece of stone. The video premiered today in front of 400 women wearing red. Photographers Cyndi Freeman and Karen Pike were there and I look forward to seeing their work.
What says Vermont community and reliability better than our classic Town Meetings? We partnered with Stowe, Vermont agency HMC to produce this "Town Meeting" spot for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Vermont.
![]() This week I worked with my Vermont Spotlight partners Doug and Kelley Lewis to shoot our first Vermont Spotlight feature! We spent two beautiful days shooting in the Champlain Islands in honor of the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's explorations there. Have a look at our snapshots from Hero's Welcome general store and Snow Farm Vineyard here. |
This blog is a place I share some of the things I think about, the photos I take, and the videos I make. They are about life, family, work, content strategy, content creation and podcasting.
